Presenter:
Randy Herban, Solutions Architect, Sylabs

Randy has been involved with HPC for nearly 15 years, starting at Purdue University’s Rosen Center for Advanced Computing, where he was critical in enabling their “Cluster-in-a-day” installations. He later moved to Cycle Computing supporting on-prem and cloud-based HPC workflows and subsequently joined the HPC team within Microsoft’s Azure.

Randy now serves as a Solutions Architect with Sylabs, helping ensure successful deployments of Singularity and Singularity container services.

The initial investment for containerizing production environments is exceedingly minimal. In transitioning proof-of-concept investigations into production use cases, and in addition to increased levels of committed resources, it soon becomes evident that ancillary services are required to ensure the success of production deployments. For this reason, Sylabs has developed a portfolio of three hosted services to ensure Singularity containers can be easily created, secured, and shared in order to better enable production use. Fully integrated with the Singularity command line, available via the Internet or customer hosted, these container services are seeing rapid uptake from savvy organizations seeking to rapidly accelerate adoption and use of containerization in their data centers, clouds, and even at the edge.

From this webinar, you can expect the following takeaways:

  • A technical appreciation of the Singularity Image Format (SIF) - the means for encapsulating via an image the runtime for Singularity containers

  • Demonstrable evidence of the integration between the Singularity command line interface and each of the three container services

  • Representative usage scenarios for the publicly hosted Sylabs Cloud - from secure creation of a container via the Remote Builder and Keystore, to storage and distribution with the Container Library

  • Early experiences and emerging best practices with customer-hosted container services - including an appreciation of the challenges and opportunities requiring consideration

  • Insight into Sylabs’ roadmap for enhancements to existing services and possibly additional services

  • Next steps in adopting Sylabs’ container services for your Singularity deployment

Intended Audience: This webinar assumes a basic degree of familiarity with Singularity. For those not yet having this familiarity, we recommend resources such as:
